In this class we'll be sewing the new Megan Nielsen Cottesloe swimsuit, a classic one-piece or mix and match bikini set suitable for sizes 0-30. Working with the pattern variation of your choice, get ready for summer in this fun one-day class!


Pattern is included in the cost of the class.

Who is the class for?  

This class is suitable for advanced beginners. You should already know how to sew and have completed a few dressmaking projects.

 

What will you learn?  

  • How to take measurements for a swimsuit. 
  • How to cut stretch fabric.
  • How to work with swimwear elastic. 
  • How to finish seams
  • How to make simple adjustments.

 

What will you need?

  • Fabric and optional lining and/or power mesh. (Please see the size charts for fabric requirements).
  • Thread for your preferred variation.
  • We will not be inserting the optional cups in this class because they require a more intimate level of fitting.
  • Please let us know prior to the class, which size range you would like. Please let us know if you require some help with this. 

Classic one piece swimsuits and mix and match bikini sets. Pattern features athletic elements, four variations and includes detailed instructions to guide the sewer through swimsuit construction techniques.

View A is a one piece swimsuit with low scoop back, shelf bra and ties at the back. View B is a one piece swimsuit with high scoop back. View C is a bikini top and a low rise bikini bottom. View D is an athletic inspired bikini top and high waisted bikini bottom with wide waistband. All versions are able to be fully lined.

Mercedes Ferrari-Plumridge

Mercedes was a contestant on series 5 of the Great British Sewing Bee (2019). She lives just outside Brighton with her husband Graham and their two cats, Maggie and Erica. Having worked in IT for over 20 years and serving as a reservist for 13, Mercedes has a passion for all things technical and wants to know the ins and outs and whys of everything.  Mercedes enjoys utilising fabrics from all sources in her sewing projects while using traditional and developing new techniques.  Minimal waste is a target with all her sewing.

Refreshments

Tea, coffee and biscuits/snacks will be available throughout the class. We recommend that you bring lunch with you as there are not many options to purchase lunch nearby.

We have a kitchen with a fridge and microwave here at the studio.

About Our Studio

Our Sewing classes are all held in our spacious sewing studio in Brighton & Hove. Our Sewing studio is easily accessible by train (nearest station Fishersgate) or bus from Brighton. We also have parking on site.
