Welcome to your October- 2022 Dream Wardrobe.
UK SIZES 6-18
This month we were totally inspired by the new Tilly & The Buttons Marnie pattern. Georgina looked so cute on the front cover of the pattern wearing our Rita print, that we just had to replicate this.
About the fabric:
Rita is a vintage floral design we have digitised and printed as part of the Fabric Godmother collection. The mix of colours is delightful and pairs well with so many colours.
We have included 2.9m of the fabric, enough for the included Marnie pattern but you could also try these patterns:
Anna Allen Anthea Blouse & Dress
Tessuti Lois Dress
Chalk & Notch Fringe Dress & Blouse
I always recommend that you pre-wash your fabric. This is especially important with fabrics that are made from natural fibres (cotton, linen, viscose etc) as these have more of a tendency to shrink.
About the pattern:
Romantic, floaty and super swishy, the Marnie blouse and mini dress will steal your heart... Keep it simple, or add the pretty tucks and ruffles.
- Breezy smock-style bodice with princess seams and gentle gathering under the yokes
- Dreamy optional undulating tucks on front yoke and sleeves
- Round neckline finished with bias binding, with optional ruffle collar
- Optional shoulder ruffles for extra drama
- Two-piece full-length bishop sleeves with elasticated hem
- Keyhole back opening with button and loop
- Choice of blouse or mini dress hem lengths
- Matching thread (we have sent you a reel of the Gutermann rPET thread made entirely from recycled plastic bottles)
- 10mm wide elastic
- 1 x 10mm button with shank
Notions required:
The Marnie looks fabulous in the Rita fabric but would also work really well in the following fabrics.
Yarn Dyed Gingham Cotton - Navy
Cotton Chambray - Blue
Amara Heavy Cotton Poplin - Black
About your gift:
This month we took the beautiful Rita floral and put it on an exclusive cute handy notepad. Perfect for popping in your handbag to note down all your sewing plans!

Sewing notes:
Prewash fabric:
This fabric shrinks when washing. I found this to be approximately 10% across the weft
(selvedge to selvedge) and 2% in the warp. This is pretty much eliminated once the fabric is
pressed but if you don’t intend to press your garment after washing you may wish to
consider cutting out a larger size.
Ironing:
This fabric irons beautifully and easily. I used almost the maximum heat setting on my iron
and a little steam.
Cutting out:
If you choose to use a check or gingham consider cutting the yoke on the bias (there will be less patterns matching to do!)
Carefully cut out the yoke, paying particular attention to the spacing of the pin tucks. If you get it uneven don't be afraid to unlick and re sew these.
Sewing the dress or blouse:
Be extra careful trimming the seam allowances on the collar, it is easy to catch the fabric underneath (don't ask us how we know)
Follow Tillys' advise to use a contrast gathering thread, there are lots of gathered bits to this dress and it will make your li8fe easier.
If you decide to lengthen the dress to make a midi or maxi, remember the dress is A line so make sure you extend it out as well as down so it falls nicely.
Happy sewing, xxx
