Come and join us in our studio to make the perfect cosy accessory for chilly weather.

Junna is an on trend sewing pattern for a sleeveless bodywarmer/vest. You can stitch pockets onto the front as an extra detail and to keep your hands warm. We will be making the bias bound version.

In this class we will be exploring different wading that can be used with your own chosen fabrics. On the first day, we will explore quilting techniques and choose the best one for your vest. You will learn how to quilt your fabric and wadding and then cut your pattern. On the second day, you will assemble the vest and bind the edges.

You can check out Naomi's blog here to see the techniques she will use in the class.

The pattern is included in the price of the class. If you already have the pattern we can refund the price of the pattern.

Please contact us if you would like to pay in instalments and we can discuss options.

Who is the class for?

This is an advanced beginner pattern but some basic skills on a sewing machine are preferable.

What will you learn?

  • How to choose wading for quilting
  • A range of techniques to quilt your fabric
  • Choose a design that best suits your chosen fabric
  • Taking simple measurements
  • Determine what size you need to make
  • Use a different method of cutting out to allow for the change in fabric size when quilted.
  • Sewing quilted fabric.
  • Add binging to finish seams and edges.

What will you need?

  • Your chosen fabric 1m (1.5m would be better if you want to test stitches out on your own fabric and have enough to be able to place print) of outer and lining fabric. We recommend prewashing your fabric to ensure your finished garment doesn't shrink the first time you wash it.
  • Lining fabric - 1m
  • Wadding. You can buy this prior to the class but we will be looking at different types so you might want to purchase on the day.
  • Thread to match.
  • Binding - we can help with the amount needed for this.

Teacher

Naomi has been crafting since she was very young. With a grandmother who was a dressmaker, she learnt to sew and knit from a young age. But it was many years later that she rediscovered the joy of sewing when she took up quilting, although it was dressmaking that was to become her true passion. Naomi trained as a teacher and after many years, pursued a diploma in Fashion and Dressmaking with City and Guilds. She has taught sewing and knitting in a number of settings around Brighton. Naomi is a prolific sewer, creating clothes to fit her body and give her the body confidence that ready to wear cannot. She enjoys pattern cutting and creating her own bespoke designs.
