Please note: the rolls have compressed some of the seersucker, giving it a smoother appearance. The lovely crinkly texture will return on washing. We recommend a 30-degree cycle and a line dry.
Welcome to your June 2024 Dream Wardrobe.
With summer approaching (we promise), we knew the perfect addition would be a light and floaty summer dress. Something super comfortable and lightweight can be thrown on, whether by the pool, heading to the shops, or dressed up for a night out.
We picked the Pattern Fantastique Ether dress; it has so many lovely details, is perfect for adapting or hacking and would work in so many different fabrics.
About the fabric:
This is our brand new, currently unreleased Monkey Tropics Seersucker. Soft and lightweight, it is the perfect fabric for long, cool maxi dresses in the height of summer.
We have included 3.4m of this fabric in the April Dream Wardrobe box.
I recommend prewashing your fabric to remove any dressing and allow for pre-shrinking. A cool wash will be fine; just make sure the temperature you use to prewash is the temperature at which you plan to wash the final garment. You don’t want your final garment to shrink.
As mentioned above, the rolls have compressed some of the seersucker, giving it a smoother appearance. The lovely crinkly texture will return on washing.
This fabric would also work well for:
- Hallon Dress Paradise Patterns
- Vali Dress Paradise Patterns
About the pattern:
The Ether Dress design was inspired by a light, puffy, cloud-like seersucker fabric gifted to me. With its simple construction and maximising volume and texture, the Ether will make you feel like you are from another world.
The structure is anchored by a rope tied off at the centre front split. The rope crosses at the centre back into a loop radiating gathers. The loop detail lowers the centre back volume for an elegant silhouette. The pattern includes two views, one with sleeves and one without. And yes, it has pockets.
Notions required:
Notions:
- Matching Thread is included in your dream wardrobe box.
- Rope Trim;
- Cotton rope
- 300 cm x 1.25 cm • 78 ¾" x ½"
I made this dress with the rope first and then tested it with a handmade tie (we used the same pattern piece as the Fleur Dress and Blouse tie and just extended it). Personally, I preferred the tie as it was more comfortable on the shoulders and less bulky.
Also, if I were to make it again, I might remove the pockets, as they can add bulk to the hip area, and I’d prefer a sleeker shape.

The Ether dress would also look great in:
Hattie Yarn Dyed Gingham Cotton - Purple & White
Alice Flower Cotton Lawn - Ivory
