Welcome to your July 2024 Dream Wardrobe.

Whilst it hasn’t been the sunniest of summers so far (still plenty of time!), the summer party season is still going ahead… This month we have given you a really special fabric and the perfect pattern to make your own summer party outfit!

About the fabric:

The fabric for this month’s dream wardrobe was designed by one of our very own ambassadors. Lindsey is a very talented textile designer and we know you will love this retro inspired floral.

We have printed Maggie exclusively on our Ecovero satin especially for Dream Wardrobe.

Here’s what Lindsey says about the Maggie print;

“Maggie was inspired by vintage fabrics from the 1960's and 70's. I struggled to find many fabrics like this so decided to design one. I chose a super vibrant colour palette to pop against the ivory background - and it pairs with red lipstick perfectly”

Check out all of her wonderful makes on Instagram…

We have given you enough fabric to make the short dress or the skirt. Giving you flexibility as to how you want to style this. (for some sizes you may be able to squeeze the long dress out of this fabric)

I recommend prewashing your fabric to remove any dressing and allow for pre-shrinking. A cool wash will be fine; just make sure the temperature you use to prewash is the temperature at which you plan to wash the final garment. You don’t want your final garment to shrink.

This fabric would also work well for:

Atelier Scämmit Astree Dress & Blouse

Fabric Godmother Peony Dress - short version

Bella Loves Rosie Shirt

 About the pattern:

The Lulee Dress / Skirt features a timeless silhouette with a classic darted bodice and a hip skimming bias cut skirt. Choose from a cute mini length or a glamorous long length and mix it up with either a long or short gathered sleeve. The feature back keyhole detail and bias bound edges give it an elegant touch. It can also be made as a separate bias cut skirt with waistband. Both dress and skirt have a sideseam invisible zipper.

Notions required:

  • Matching Thread is included in your dream wardrobe box.
  • fusing - skirt only
  • 0.5m/0.55y x 1.5cm/0.6” wide fusing tape -skirt & dress
  • 35cm/13.7” Invisible zipper - dress
  • 20cm/7.9” Invisible zipper - skirt
  • 1 x 20mm/0.78” button – skirt
  • Microtex Needles included as your gift - these are the best needles for fine fabrics - a sewing kit staple

The Lulee dress would also look great in:

Riviera Viscose & Linen - Orange

Mega Bloom Floral Crinkle Viscose - Lilac

Allegra Viscose Jacquard - Multi

About your gift:

We have included some Microtex Needles - these are the best needles for fine fabrics, just like the viscose satin Maggie fabric you have in this months dream wardrobe box.

"Microtex" sewing machine needle have flat shanks making them especially suitable for processing super-fine, modern materials such as microfibres, polyester, coated materials or fabrics with a high amount of fibres. Thanks to its sharp, sleek tip, the needle very easily penetrates the fabric – this results in an ideal "straight” stitch that does not harm the fibres.

A real sewing kit staple!

Lindsey’s notes:

Lulee is elegant and simple and really enjoyed making it. Teaming it with the viscose satin makes a stunning special occasion dress.

Next time I'd take more care cutting the skirt pieces; as they are cut on the bias they can shift out of shape so easily - when making again I'd cut around them first before cutting accurately to stop the weight of the rest of the fabric pulling them out of shape.

The needles included in the Dream Wardrobe box were brilliant, they made sewing this delicate fabric easy.

I'm delighted that Fabric Godmother have printed my Maggie design onto this absolutely gorgeous viscose satin - it's my favourite base of theirs as it is slinky with a subtle sheen and feels so lovely to wear. I feel instantly glamorous when putting it on.

Maggie was inspired by vintage fabrics from the 1960's and 70's. I struggled to find many fabrics like this so decided to design one. I chose a super vibrant colour palette to pop against the ivory background - and it pairs with red lipstick perfectly.
