The Great British Sewing Bee - Series 9 Episode 8
Posted by Phoebe on 14th Jul 2023
The theme was 'Icons' on the Great British Sewing Bee this week and we loved all of the references the bee's put into their garments!
The first challenge was to create a dress inspired by the iconic dress Audrey Hepburn wore in Breakfast at Tiffanys. The eagle-eyed amongst you might have noticed not one, but TWO Fabric Godmother fabrics were chosen for this challenge. Our wonderful Rosita Viscose Satin and the Bonnie Viscose Satin. Both of these fabrics are perfect for this type of dress and occasion-wear in general!

Rosita Viscose Ecovero Satin - Pink
The dress in question featured an invisible zip, which made the challenge a bit more difficult. If you're looking to create a similar style dress with a zip, definitely check out our new invisible zip tutorial on our Youtube channel!
We loved the Audrey dress, but for something equally elegant but a bit more covered up, we have to recommend our brand new sewing pattern the Peony Dress. Featuring an invisible zip, frill sleeves and hem and a fabulous couture technique for the shoulder puff. This dress would work perfectly in both Rosita and Bonnie!

The Made to Measure challenge this week was to create a smoking jacket. A smoking jacket is an informal men's style of lounge jacket originally intended for tobacco smoking. It usually has a lapel collar is either wrapped and tied with a belt, or double breasted.
We thought all of the jackets looked incredible, but we absolutely love Mia's version with the scallop edging. We've just launched several deadstock brocades on the website that are worth of a Harry Style's jacket, and would be perfect to recreate this look!

We hope this blog post has fuelled your creativity!
Happy Sewing!
