The Great British Sewing Bee - Series 8 Episode 7

It was lingerie and sleep week on the GBSB and this week saw the contestants trying their hand at underwired bras, re-imagining old sleepwear as new outfits and creating luxury men's pyjamas.

The first challenge was possibly one of the most complex of the series so far. The contestants were given just under four hours to make a bra and knicker set, using lace, complete with underwiring and bra clasp. Whilst we don't have any underwired bras on the website, we have several patterns perfect for dipping your toe into the work of lingerie.

Made My Wardrobe Josie Bra & Pants (Beginner)

A personal favourite pattern of mine is the Josie Bra & Pants by Made My Wardrobe. This soft bra pattern can be made in lace or plain single jersey, and features a cross back and different length options. It's a beginner friendly lingerie pattern and can be easier to fit than the classic underwired bras. This pattern also features a pair of matching knickers. Why not try making them with a contrasting lace and jersey for a unique look.

Tilly and the Buttons Iris Knickers (Beginner)

If you often have lots of jersey scraps lying about then the Iris Knickers by Tilly and the Buttons could be the perfect pattern for you. Requiring less than a metre of fabric, this scrap buster project is quick and simple and a perfect way to ensure that you don't waste any fabric when you are sewing!

Christine Haynes Dune Tank & Briefs PDF (Beginner)

Another great pattern is the Dune Tank and Briefs by Christine Haynes. This pattern makes a matching set that can be worn as lingerie or sleepwear. It would be perfect sewn up in one of our soft modal jersey fabrics.

Next the contestants had to transform old, boring sleepwear into new outfits. We saw everything from lattice details, to mini dresses and sun dresses.

Finally the contestants were tasked to create luxury men's pyjamas. We saw a lot of silk fabrics, piping and revere collars. I've chosen a few of my favourite luxury inspired pyjama patterns that would be perfect to re-create these looks!

Closet Core Patterns Carolyn Pyjamas (Intermediate)

For classic, piped pyjamas you can't go wrong with the Carolyn PJs by Made by Closet Core. These feature the classic piping we saw on the show and will give you the ultimate luxury PJ look.

Paper Theory Patterns Agnes PJs PDF (Beginner)

If piping isn't your thing, the Agnes PJs by Paper Theory are a wonderful pattern for getting the classic PJ look but with a modern twist. This pattern has grown-on sleeves and a boxy look. Definitely more relaxed than the Carolyn Pyjamas, but luxurious nonetheless. Perfect for soft cotton fabrics and linens.

We can't wait to see what the contestants have to make next week!
