The Great British Sewing Bee - Series 10 Episode 5
Posted by Phoebe on 19th Jun 2024
This week’s episode of The Great British Sewing Bee transported us straight to the vibrant heart of India! The remaining sewers celebrated the rich tapestry of Indian fashion and textiles and welcomed the brilliant Priya Khanchandani as this week’s special guest judge.
First up was the Pattern Challenge, inspired by the iconic jacket worn by India's first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. The sewing room buzzed with excitement as contestants raced to create this iconic garment. Lauren used our gorgeous Fabric Godmother Adele Viscose ECOVERO™ Satin - Multi to create her jacket, and although it wasn't structured enough for the intricate details, Patrick said it would be perfect for some glamourous pyjamas - and we have to agree!

Next, the Transformation Challenge tasked sewers with creating outfits from two quintessentially Indian fabrics: calico and Madras cotton. Creativity flowed as the sewers combined the fabrics in unique and interesting ways! We have a very similar beautiful Madras style fabric that would be perfect for creating your own garments!

Finally, the Made to Measure challenge brought a touch of glamour, with contestants crafting evening wear inspired by the intricate beauty of the sari. This was about more than sewing; it was about capturing Indian elegance and tradition.
From Nehru jackets to sari-inspired gowns, this episode was a dazzling celebration of Indian heritage through fashion. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
Happy Sewing!
