Embrace Your Wild Side: The Rise of Wildcat Prints in Fashion

Posted by Preya on 9th Sep 2024

If there's one trend that refuses to be tamed, it's wildcat prints. From leopard spots to tiger stripes, these fierce patterns have become a fashion staple that keeps making a comeback, season after season. Fabric Godmother’s Wildcat collection brings the perfect mix of print and texture to sewists like me who live for this trend!

The Shadow Leopard viscose crepe is the perfect fabric for a dress or a little co-ord. It reminded me of some of Stella McCartney’s pieces where the boldness of a cat print is mixed with a softer more sophisticated shape, like a drapey shirt or flowy dress. In the end I decided to make a Tilly and the Buttons Mabel as it’s a versatile piece that will see me into the AW season, and its size inclusive – which matters!

It was definitely a good choice as the fabric shirrs beautifully and sews up easily. I used a microtex 70 needle which is nice and light but has a sharp point to ensure the perfect stitch. Sometimes crepe fabrics have the tendency to snag, but this one stayed flawless. I made a size 11, although I could have sized down as the fabric is so soft and fluid.

I’m planning lots more animal print makes, I’ve already bought some of Fabric Godmothers Ace Animal Print denim for a pair of jeans. If you're ready to embrace your wild side, there are plenty of ways to incorporate animal prints into your wardrobe:

  • For a subtle touch: Start with accessories. You could make a leopard print bag or a hair accessory to elevate a basic outfit.
  • For a bolder look: Try making a statement piece like a dress or some jeans. Pair with neutral tones to keep the focus on the print.
  • For the fashion-forward: Mix and match different wildcat prints, or even pair them with other patterns like stripes or florals. Just be sure to keep the color palette cohesive to avoid clashing.

Whether you go for a subtle accent or a full-on wildcat ensemble, this is one trend that's sure to make you feel fierce.
