Orla Blouse

Posted by Fabric Godmother on 1st Jan 1970

I adore Orla Kiely. The geometric florals, the pretty collars and retro colour palette.
I know that my mum also loves this style so for mothers day this year I decided to make her a blouse inspired by Orla Kiely.
I choose a silk and cotton mix fabric for the blouse. This has a slightly sheer finish but is really light ad ideal for the warmer weather that is trying to get through. (Though a simple cotton lawn or poplin would work just as well)

The pattern is the Violet blouse from Colette Patterns. The rounded collar and slightly puffed sleeves make it really feminine without being too frilly.

The blouse also has a simple gathered back yoke and bust darts. I used contrast blue buttons to bring out the blue in the centre of the flowers. It is simple to sew and really versatile.

Finishing touches: As I was posting my present this year I made sure that is was prettily wrapped in tissue paper to match the fabric

I think she looks fabulous in it don't you agree?

Here are some other fabrics that would make a delightful Orla style blouse
