My Rie dress, some exciting news and a giveaway!!!

Posted by Fabric Godmother on 1st Jan 1970

So I have been a bit sporadic with the blog posts lately but I do have a very good excuse... there is a  mini fabric Godmother or Godfather on its way.

I am really excited and as soon as I got a bit of energy I started on my maternity wardrobe (don't worry I promise not to turn my entire blog into 'sewing for mummies' but you will see a few more maternity and baby posts in the future)

Project number one was the Rie dress from Megan Neilsen. This is part of a delightful range of maternity patterns including pencils skits and nursing tops.
Sadly Megan no longer does print versions of her patterns (though there are a few left in stock on my website here) so for any of you who are paper pattern fans like me you will have to brave the world of downloads. You can find all of Megans patterns here.

I choose a wool and viscose jersey mix in French Navy to make this dress in and it worked a treat. It was a great chance for me to get out my overlocker and use it on a real life project not just practice runs. Two of my Resewlutions ticked off already and January is only just over! I also spent plenty of time testing to get the top stitching of the neckline, sleeves and hem to work. Use a scrap piece of fabric and play about with the tensions and stitch lengths to get it just right, takes a while but well worth the time put in. The dress pattern comes up quite short and as I am 5'9" I added an extra few inches (not a big fan of my thighs even with black opaques) and I love this length.

If you need any help with sewing with jersey take a look at my sewing with jersey blog post here.
